FITTING THE HANDBRAKE

Tim had the handbrake handle re chromed.  The handle was rusted, but otherwise in good condition.  The handbrake system, except for the handle, was installed when the differential and rear brakes were fitted.  Today, all we had to do was fit the reconditioned handle.  Sounds simple doesn't it.
When the chrome shop plated the handle, the rod that connects the handle to the cable was also plated.  This rod fits through a bushing which is mounted to the propeller shaft tunnel.  The plating had to be removed from the rod so that it would fit inside the bushing.  The process took about an hour or so, but it worked out well.

The archive listing of this blog contains detailed step-by-step photos and narratives regarding this restoration since it began late last December.  Please direct any comments and questions to tommystoplesscars@yahoo.com.

Stay tuned,
Tom McCurry
